MENICUCCI -- Charles Menicucci passed away on Friday, September 5, 2003 after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Emma; children, including David and his wife, Barbara, Debby Burke and her husband, Steve, Kathy Meadows and her husband, Kirk and Paul. He had five grandchildren, Nick and Anthony Menicucci, Danny and Sarah Sheffer, and Christine Meadows. Other survivors include his brother, Dante and his wife, Mary as well as his sister, Mari and her husband, Jerry both of Albuquerque, and his sister, Teresa Clark and husband, Tom of Baton Rouge, LA. Charlie was born on March 22, 1924 to Giulia and Julio Menicucci, immigrants from the northern province of Lucca, Italy. He grew up in downtown Albuquerque where he attended St. Mary's grade- and high-school. After graduating high-school in 1942, he was enlisted in the United States Army where he served for nearly four years in WWII as a radar technician. He saw action in both the American and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters and was involved in the Air Offensive, Eastern Mandates, Western Pacific and Rvukyus campaigns. He was a superb marksman and was decorated several times for exceptional performance in the line of duty. Charlie, his brother Dante and their cousin Mario owned and operated two businesses in town-Super Oil Company, located on First Street and Summer, and Super Service Station, located on Fourth and Lomas. Charlie directed the automotive repair portion of the service station where he was known not only as an honest and expert mechanic, but also as a jovial friend who was never short of jokes or amusing stories. He retired from the business in 1988 when it closed after 61 consecutive years of operation. For his entire life Charlie was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he ushered for nearly 60 years, including many years as chairman of the Usher's Club. He was recently awarded a commemorative plaque for this extraordinary service. Always active, Charlie enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, wood- and metal-working, gardening, and walking. He kept busy after retirement by building a bounty of furniture for his children and grandchildren. An excellent cook, he spent many hours preparing special Italian dishes using long-time family recipes or with those that he developed himself. He loved to talk about his cooking, but loved eating it even more. He was a great friend to many in the Albuquerque area and was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. A memorial Mass will be celebrated, 10:00am, on Tuesday, September 9, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper Ave. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Brothers of the Good Shepard, 10127 Guadalupe Tr. NW, 87114 or a charity of choice.
