NICHOLS, DOUGLAS GALE Aged 80, died December 31, 2014 in Round Rock, TX. The son of Shelba and Golda Larimore Nichols, Doug was born in Sedalia, MO., October 8, 1934. He attended school in Kansas City and Chillicothe. He graduated from Chillicothe High School and the University of Missouri, with a degree in economics. He began his career in banking as an examiner for the Treasury Department For the next forty years he served as president and head of the trust department at banks in Albuquerque, NM., and Dallas, TX. After his retirement he moved to Round Rock, the home of his daughter. A victim of polio at age two, Doug overcame many obstacles. He led a full and successful life. He loved any and all sports, following the Missouri Tigers with special interest. Golf was his passion. Two major highlights were playing St. Andrews in Scotland and The Masters in Augusta, Georgia with his Albuquerque golfing pals. He was devoted to his family and friends. A biting wit, sometimes irascible behavior and a soft spot for his grandsons were his hallmarks. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by two sons, Douglas Gale II of Phoenix, AZ, John Richard Frank of Albuquerque, one daughter, Susan Harris and husband Craig, and four grandchildren, John, Matthew and Michael Harris and Christopher Nichols. Also surviving are one brother, Richard, and wife Martha of Clinton, MO, and one sister, Nan Chapman, and husband Don of Chillicothe. He also leaves behind four nephews, David, Thomas and Phillip Chapman and Richard Nichols, and one niece, Mary Nan Dupont. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John Phillip Nichols, and one nephew, John Edward Berry Nichols. There was cremation. There will be a short service and reception on January 30th from 3-5pm at the Albuquerque Country Club to celebrate Doug's life.
