VASILAKIS, ANTHONY JOSEPH (TONY) Anthony Joseph Vasilakis was born May 27, 1920, in Trinidad, Colorado. He moved to New Mexico when he was a young boy and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1935. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Government from the University of New Mexico. During World War II he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and spent three years overseas with the 428 Bombardment Squadron of Twelfth Air Force in North Africa, Corsica and Italy. On August 1, 1942, he married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Padilla. His career was serving several New Mexico cities as City Manager-Farmington, Aztec, Las Cruces and Grants. He was named New Mexico City Manager of the year in 1974. After officially retiring from that profession in 1980 he began Veeco, a consulting firm to assist small communities, etc. In 2007 he and Margaret moved to The Atrium, a retirement community in Grand Junction, Colorado, to be nearer their children. Tony is survived by his wife of 72 years, Margaret; daughter Diane Wilson of Cortez, CO; and two sons, Tony Vasilakis II of Springboro, Ohio and Stephen Vasilakis of New Castle, CO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Randy Calhoun, Kimberlei Rawson, Casey Durrstein and Emily Hisel, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Justice, Ford and Meghann Durrstein, Tyler Calhoun, Graham Rawson and Charlie and Zoe Hisel. Tony was a member of the Episcopal Church.
