PAYNE, VIVIAN FREY This beautiful and loving wife and mother passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of November 6, 2014. Vivian was born in Nescopeck, PA on October 12, 1918. She graduated from what is now Bloomsburg State University with a teaching degree and spent another year getting a Library Sciences certificate from Kutztown University. She spent a year as a high school teacher, but did not like it much. After learning the art of drafting, she wound up with a job in Long Island, NY as a draftsperson with American Airlines during WW II. When the war ended she became a stewardess and eventually met her husband Word in Ft. Worth, TX. She was happy to devote her life and love to him and to add that devotion to her sons Wallace and Richard as they entered her life. Her husband preceded her in death in 2002, and her sons both are residents of Albuquerque. She is also survived by sister Aileen Waltman and her brother-in-law, William Waltman, niece Holly Waltman, and nephew William Waltman, all in Nescopeck, PA. Her nephews Tex, Charles, and Lindsay Vogel reside in France, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Vivian moved to Albuquerque in 1958 with the family when her husband established a construction company here. She worked the books for her husband's businesses but also was an active volunteer in many Albuquerque charitable organizations. For decades she gave her time to the Assistance League of Albuquerque, Presbyterian and Lovelace hospitals, and was one of the initial volunteers for Albuquerque's Meals on Wheels program. She has loved being a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church since her arrival in Albuquerque. A memorial service will be held for Vivian on November 21st, 2 pm at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Joy Junction in Albuquerque.
