DOLDE, MARIE N. Marie N. Dolde, 94, was born August 24, 1920, in Yokohama, Japan, and passed away with family by her side on October 5, 2014, in Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Paul Duggan, Ruth Ann and Weston Thompson, and Jean and Dave Jenkins; grandchildren, William, Ken and Andrew Jenkins; nieces, Selma Cozart and Marilyn Achten; and a nephew, Victor Cozart. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Irene Nelson, her husband, Howard F. Dolde, and her sister, Frances Cozart. After spending the first two years of her life in Japan, her family moved to Berwyn, IL. They later moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she attended and graduated from high school. She returned to the United States, enlisted in the U.S. Army as a WAC and proudly served her country from 1945 to 1948. Marie settled in Albuquerque after her discharge, attended UNM where she became a member of Town Club, a non-Greek sorority; and joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. She met her future husband, Howard Dolde, at St. Paul's; they married in 1950. Marie graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's in social work the next year. Marie stayed home with her children until the youngest started school. Then she worked part time as a medical secretary for Dr. Roy Robertson. She led her daughters' Girl Scout troops through Brownie, Junior and Cadette age levels. Marie's faith was important to her as she led the Lutheran Church Women's Bible Study and sang in the choir at St. Paul's for many years. Her concern for the hungry led her to support Bread for the World and provide meals through a program known as Friends Feeding Friends. In addition she and Howard delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Marie was an accomplished seamstress, making beautiful dresses for her daughters and tailored suits for her husband. In 1981 she made her first quilt and discovered a passion that led her to join Candelaria Quilters and make numerous quilts for her family and friends. Marie also quilted with the St. Paul Quilters and made many, many quilts for Project Linus, a national organization that provides handmade quilts to children who experience tragedy in their lives. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road NE in Albuquerque.
