GRIEGO, MICHAEL "GREG" JR. Michael "Greg" Griego Jr., 32, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Las Vegas, NM, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 as a result of a long battle with brain cancer. His friends and family were by his side when de drifted off to be with the Lord. Greg was born on February 14, 1982 to Michael and Iris Griego of Las Vegas, NM. Greg attended West Las Vegas High School where he was an active member of the West Las Vegas Dons Football Team. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Nebaska-Omaha, New Mexico Highlands University, and the University of New Mexico. While attending UNM Greg was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Jaelynn Brooke Griego, raising her as a single Dad. Jaelynn was Greg's pride and joy and was Danny's little princess. During Greg's tenure at UNM he was able to land an internship at KISS 97.3 and was still employed there today as the company's Content Manager and Web Designer. Greg was also employed at Delta Airlines where he worked in customer service. Greg enjoyed listening to music, going to watch movies, cruising the ATV's, traveling the world and mosts importantly spending time with his daughter. Greg was a man of faith, wisdom, and generosity. He loved giving back to the community and provided many positive things to society and to charity organizations. Greg donated a lot of time as a D.J. for La Acedemia de Esperanza, a charter school whose primary focus was at risk youth from broken homes, hosted and organized toy drives for the Boys and Girls Club of Albuquerque, organized and hosted a Zumba Dance Inspired Fitness Party benefiting the New Mexico Autism Society, and was an active supporter of St. Jude Children's Hospital. For each of these charities 100% of all proceeds were donated to each of the organizations. Greg did his fair share in life to help others and was proud to say he had accomplished many goals, traveled the world, supported and raised his daughter, and most importantly done his share to give back to the community. From the words of Greg, "I give thanks to the Lord in all things. Thank you Lord for giving me life and giving me a change to live with purpose. Thank you for all the friends and family I was blessed with." Greg is survived by his parents, Michael and Iris Griego of Las Vegas, NM; his daughter, Jaelynn Griego of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers: Keith and Gabriel Griego both of Rio Rancho, NM; two sisters: Anna Griego of Rio Rancho, NM and Caroline Maes of Las Vegas, NM; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Trujillo and Stephanie Bogle, both of Rio Rancho, NM. He leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Tony and Virginia Maes of Mora, NM and his paternal grandmother Clorinda Griego of Guadalupita, NM. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 9:15 a. m. until 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114 on Friday, July 18, 2014 followed by a Rosary and the Mass of Christian Burial. The interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque, NM. Serving as casket bearers will be Joseph Padilla Dale Maes, Dale Herrera, Dion Maes, Gowah Lone Eagle, and Tim Muniz. Honorary casket bearers will be Julio G, Keith Griego, Gabriel Griego, and Michael Griego, Anthony Griego, and Lee Griego. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.gonzalesfunerals.com.
