GALEY, WILLIAM (BILL) R. JR. Age 70, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was born in Boise, ID on July 26, 1943, to William and Margaret (Sparkman) Galey. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Galey and son, Reid Patrick Galey. William is survived by his father, William R. Galey Sr.; children, Ryan Willaim Galey, Cristina Maria Galey, Scott Alexander Galey all of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, Joe Galey and wife, Ruth or Boise, ID, Tom Galey and wife Lee Ellis of Portland, OR; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Galey of Minnetonka, MN. He was a passionate scientist and academic, Bill held a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and was a professor for 30 years and later Associate Dean at the UNM School of Medicine. Throughout his career he was a productive researcher and teacher, with a penchant for mentoring the next generation of physicians and researchers. Bill ended his career at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, where he continued to mentor and inspire young scientists, directing numerous graduate education programs. His success in his career was second only to his success as a Son and Father. Politically liberal and fiscally conservative, he will be remembered by his family and friends as a brilliant thinker with a sharp wit, a compassionate soul, a steadfast sense of optimism, and a low tolerance for B minuses in 4th grade math.
