O'BRIEN, BRADFORD MALCOLM Bradford (Brad) Malcolm O'Brien age 88, went home to join his beloved wife, LaCorda, and be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2014. A true believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Brad lived a life of love and devotion to the Lord, to his family and to his country. Brad was born in New York City, NY on October 14, 1925 to Ralph Griswold O'Brien and Phyllis Bethel Smith O'Brien. He was the younger brother of Dr. Ralph Griswold O'Brien, Jr. who preceded him in death in 2010. As a young boy, Brad lived in Phoenix, AZ and played football. He was awarded a college football scholarship, but was unable to take advantage of it because of WWII. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during the war in hopes of becoming a ball turret gunner; however his 6'3" height made it impossible for him to pursue that. During his tour of duty, he met a beautiful young woman, LaCorda Luella Schuetz, in Sioux City, IA who became his loving wife and friend for 61 years. He retired from a distinguished career with the United States Department of Labor and moved with La Corda to Albuquerque. Brad was a member of the Lutheran Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was predeceased by his wife, LaCorda, of 61 years, his father Ralph Griswold O'Brien, his mother, Phyllis Bethel Smith O'Brien, his brother, Ralph Griswold O'Brien, Jr. of Griffin, GA, and a daughter, Patricia Rae O'Brien Rodriquez of San Jose, CA. Brad is survived by daughters, Alice Depew and husband Raymond Depew of Bluffton, SC; Candyce Kay Jones and husband Frederick Jones of Albuquerque, NM and Sharon Sedillo and husband Roberto Sedillo of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his grandsons, Dr. James Depew, and wife Dr. Jessa Ford Depew of Savannah, GA and Capt. Ryan Depew, USAF of Philadelphia, PA; and also by his granddaughters, Shannon Jones of Philadelphia, PA; and Megan and Lindsay Rodriquez of San Jose, CA. In addition, Brad is survived by his great-grandson, Alexander Jones of Albuquerque. There will be a private memorial service followed by interment at a national cemetery.
