VOGELSBERG, ROBERT died on March 12, 2014, after a brief illness. He was born on April 20, 1930, in New York to Caroline Kelchner and Edward Vogelsberg. A man of many facets, he grew up and lived for many years in Red Hook, Brooklyn. He loved the sea and began to ship out at the age of 15, traveling the world until 1961 when he graduated from Columbia University School of General Studies. He had an artistic temperament and studied at the Art Students' League in New York City. His later work career was varied and included managing a computer installation for Seafarers' International Union. In 1972, he and his family moved to Washington County, Maine, where he worked as supervisor of sardine inspection for the Maine Department of Agriculture from the early 1970's to the mid-1990's. In 1999 he retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico with his family. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, was active in the American Legion Post 72 of Albuquerque, and a member of the Edelweiss am Rio Grande German American Club. He is survived by his wife, Joan Vogelsberg; and his children, Gretchen and Chase Vogelsberg, all of Albuquerque; sister, Sally Vogelsberg; granddaughters, Catherine and Victoria Small; nephews Baron and Earl Vogelsberg; nieces Valerie Panek and Sally Jaye Vogelsberg; and good friend, Lawrence Navarro. A memorial service for the family will be held at a date yet to be determined. "Home is the sailor, home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill." (Robert Louis Stevenson)
