VARELA, SARAH A. Sarah Varela passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Placida Archibeque; husband, Pat Varela; infant daughter, Carmen Varela; and her brother, Nino Archibeque. She is survived by her daughter, Vangie Jett and husband, James (Pete); sons, Pat Varela, Jr. and wife, Terri, and Danny Varela and wife, Gloria; grandchildren, Stephen (Maureen) Jett, Kathleen (David) Griego, Camille (Greg) Warden, Jennifer (Brad) Rosenberg, Andrew Varela, Bryan (Beth) Varela, and Danielle (Jeramie) McCullough; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marcella Archibeque; her nieces and nephews; and other family members, including Angie Wagner and Nancy Gallegos. Sarah was a member of Immaculate Conception parish for many years and faithfully prayed her rosaries daily. While her husband, Pat, was a prisoner of war, who survived the Bataan Death March, Sarah faithfully kept scrapbooks detailing the period of time Pat was gone. The family wishes to thank the staff at Woodmark at Uptown Assisted Living, especially the caregivers and medical staff. Also, a special thank you to her friends at the Woodmark who were always so helpful, and to Francine Zimmerly for her friendship and caring. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, March 20, 2014, 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH - University, with visitation one hour prior from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Warren Broussard, S. J. on Friday, March 21, 2014, 1:30 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW. Pallbearers will be Rudy Grande, David Archibeque, David Griego, Stephen Jett, Bryan Varela, and Andrew Varela. Private burial will take place later at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
