LEVY, LEO Leo Levy passed away on August 26, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old. Leo was born in Brooklyn, New York, and he went to high school at Brooklyn Tech; he earned his BA and MA at City College of New York. Leo earned his PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Washington, where he met and married Annika Ameen, a Swedish exchange student; they were married for 56 years. Leo also earned his MPH at Harvard University. Leo moved his family to Chicago, and they lived in Hyde Park for 26 years. Leo headed the Department of Planning and Evaluation of Mental Health for the state of Illinois for five years, and then became a professor of behavioral science at the UIC School of Public Health and Medical School, where he taught for 20 years. Leo was a full professor when he retired, and he had had Fulbright and Mellon grants to do research in the Netherlands and in London. Leo was a gifted musician, playing American folk music on the guitar. Classical music, film, art, and theater were lifelong passions. When Leo and Annika retired to New Mexico, they continued to be avid patrons of the arts, particularly of the New Mexico Philharmonic and Fusion Theater. Leo will be missed for his dry wit, his intellectual curiosity, his integrity, and his devotion to his family. Leo is survived by his wife, Annika Ameen Levy; daughter and son-in-law, Anna Pentler and Bill Pentler; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Stuart Lipkowitz; and grandchildren, Isaac and Anya Lipkowitz. The family requests no flowers and suggests that those planning a memorial to Leo may wish to consider making donations to Amnesty International, the ACLU, or to the Hydrocephalus Foundation, 910 Rear Broadway, Saugus, Massachusetts 01906.
