FRASHIER, GORDON ALEXANDER Age 82, resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died June 23, 2013. Gordon was born in the family farm home six miles east of Pampa, Texas and was the fifth and youngest child of Elmer Gordon Frashier and Martha Alice Gray Frashier. He lived a happy idyllic rural childhood there with two years on a small farm in Rogers, Arkansas, returning to Pampa for his teen years until he left home for college. Gordon's dad always had a horse for his cowboy son. Gordon has said his favorite chore was riding his horse out to herd the cattle. He met Joyce Elaine Cummings at Abilene Christian College in 1949 and they married in 1951. Gordon earned a BS degree in Animal Husbandry at Abilene Christian College and the couple planned to farm in the Texas Panhandle. The 1950's drought influenced Gordon to move to Fort Collins Colorado and get a second degree in Range Management at Colorado A&M University. He started a student summer job in 1955 with the Bureau of Land Management, in Gunnison Colorado and became a permanent employee in 1957. After twelve years working in several Colorado districts, the family was transferred to Winnemucca, Nevada, where they spent five years. In 1971, he transferred to Albuquerque New Mexico and retired there in 1986. He thoroughly enjoyed and loved his work. After his wife retired from her job with the Albuquerque Public Library system, they moved back to Panhandle Texas for 10 years to assist her parents, returning back to Albuquerque in 2002. The couple just recently celebrated 62 years of marriage together. They had two motor homes and traveled extensively after his retirement. Three daughters were born to the couple: Alice Jan Sorbet, Elaine Avon Hardin and Bonnie Dee Poteet. They have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Gordon has been a devoted Christian all his life. Wherever he lived he was an active vital part of every local church congregation where he was a member. At the time of his death he was a member of the Mountainside Church of Christ in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gordon lived close to and loved nature all his life. He felt most at home in the great outdoors, whether in the wilderness or in his own beautiful yard at home. He loved warm summer weather and was known in later years for his many hats. He was a wise business manager, providing well for his family. He was modest and frugal with his lifestyle and generous with his loved ones and others in need. He was meticulous and self-disciplined in managing his home and all areas of life. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. Gordon generously donated his rare, universal blood for blood banks in four states since the 1960's. Total amount donated was 23 plus gallons. Survivors include his wife Joyce; one sister, Betty Jo Epperson; sister-in-law Anne Frashier; three daughters, and son-in-law William Peter Poteet; grandchildren, Gordon Erick Poteet and wife, Michelle, Bonnie Laura Hardin, Cecily Bergine Ponce de Leon and husband, Reuben, Arlie Dee Poteet, Spencer Chase Hardin, and Jared Ryan Sorbet; great- grandchildren, Erick Alexander Poteet and Russell William Poteet.
