WOMACK, ROSE LEE STEWART born August 25, 1917, died on February 15, 2013 in Albuquerque, NM at Manzano Del Sol Retirement Community where she had lived for twenty-two years. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church on Sunday, March 10th at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. She will be buried in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with her husband, Lt. Colonel Russell O. Womack in a private family service. Growing up during in the Great Depression, Rose Lee's biggest disappointment was not being to attend college. She made up for her lack of formal education by reading widely, attending lectures and concerts, and visiting any museums within driving distance of the places she lived and traveled to as an Air Force wife. She always found things to enjoy in the many places she lived. After she was widowed at 50, she worked at New Mexico Electric Company in Hobbs, New Mexico to provide the means for her three children to be able attend college and to support herself. She became active in her community, volunteering with the Hobbs Community Concerts, serving on the vestry at St. Christopher's Episcopal church, working with the Lea Regional Auxiliary as a "pink lady", and encouraging young women in their educational pursuits through her business sorority, PEO. After her retirement from New Mexico Electric Co., she moved to Albuquerque to help raise her youngest granddaughter and be closer to her two daughters. Typically independent and though fairly young, she chose to live at Manzano so she could be free to travel and spend time with her family in the various places they lived. Rose Lee Stewart Womack was the daughter of Edward Lee Stewart and Rose Colescott Stewart of Easton, MD. Her parents, her brothers, Benjamin F. Stewart and Robert Stewart, and her husband, Russell O. Womack Jr., preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Heather Lee Womack Gaume and her husband, Arthur Norm Gaume, Rosalind Womack and her husband, Larry Cotter, Russell O. Womack III and his wife, Charlene Hefner Womack; her five granddaughters, Letisha Womack, Shanasi Womack Wade and her husband, Chuck Wade, Camille Gaume Snyder and her husband, David Snyder, Alethea Gaume Stone and her husband Tim Stone, and Brittany Gaume and her partner, Colin Evans; and her six great-grandchildren, Max Wade, Aiden Wade, Sara Anne Snyder, Caroline Rose Snyder, Willhelmina Womack, and Eliza Stone. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond NE, Albuq., NM 87106 or to the Employee Scholarship Fund at Manzano Del Sol Retirement Community, 5201 Roma, NE, Albuq. NM., 87108.
