COBBLE, LYNNE MORTON Long time Albuquerque resident and World War II veteran Lynne Morton Cobble, passed away at home on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the age of 93. Lynne was born in Artesia, New Mexico, on May 9, 1919 to Effie Mae and James Franklin Cobble. He spent his youth on the family farm and was a member of Future Farmers of America. After graduating from Artesia High School, he volunteered for the U.S. Army, and served in Saipan during WWII. After the war, he was assigned to many U.S. embassies overseas, including those in Moscow, Russia, and Paris, France, where his work included decoding enemy messages. While living in Europe, Lynne met and mingled with many WWII luminaries and regaled his family and friends with great stories. Lynne retired from active military duty as a Master Sergeant after 20 years in the U.S. Army. He then began work with the U.S. government as a civil servant, where he served his country for an additional 20 years. After retirement, he enjoyed square dancing, country music, photography and videotaping performances. He will be remembered for his positive attitude, sense of humor, and love for people. Lynne was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Eleanor Cobble; brothers, Morton, Paul, and James Cobble; and sisters, Juanita Gromo and Grace Marable. He is survived by one sister, Jean Gilliam, and brother-in-law Wade Gilliam, as well as nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming and services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., also at FRENCH - Wyoming.
