TOLLEFSON, STEVE Steve died on September 23, 2012. He was a father, a brother, a son. He was born on July 31, 1963, grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa and moved to New Mexico in 1979. Steve graduated from Silver City High School and then earned a BA from UNM with a major in Geography and a minor in Geology. For nearly 25 years, he was the Principal Strategic Planner for the City of Rio Rancho's Development Services Department. Recently, he was a featured extra on the television shows "In Plain Sight" and the Emmy-award winning "Breaking Bad," and feature films such as "The Avengers." In the past six months, Steve had been working for Advance Tower Services, doing maintenance on cell phone towers. He deeply enjoyed being a "Tower Hand," spending time on the highest mountain peaks with the elk, birds, sheep, and deer. "We want to take inspiration from the past and improve upon it for the future," Steve said. And while a few inches of a newspaper ink is a small amount of space to summarize a life, those that knew him will carry his spirit with them. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Roberta and Jim West of Santa Fe; his father and stepmother, Nick and Candy Tollefson of Stillwater, MN; his daughter, Specialist Jessica Chavez, who is an MP in the United States Army; his sister, Sheri Tollefson and Dan Kemme of Albuquerque; nieces Averi and Cailin Treseder of Albuquerque; his brother, Dave Tollefson and Linda Marquez of Silver City; nephew Nate Tollefson, a freshman at ENMU; and stepsister Wendy of Los Angeles. The family has established a memorial fund at the UNM School of Architecture + Planning. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Steve Tollefson's name can be mailed to the UNM Foundation, 2 Woodward Center, 700 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 or made on line at: unmfund.org/online-giving/saap. A celebration of Steve's life will be held Saturday morning, October 6th, 10:00 AM, at the Copper Pointe Church, 10500 Copper Avenue, Albuquerque, NM 87123.
