KLEYBOECKER -- KIM "KLEY" Age 56, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 after a brief struggle with melanoma. Kley was born in Hawaii. He and his brother Jeff spent their early years in Honolulu where their dad taught at lolani School. When he was eight, the Kleyboeckers moved to Albuquerque, where his father accepted an invitation to head the Science department at the Albuquerque Academy's new campus. Bill taught happily there for the next 25 years and Kley graduated from the academy in 1974. the Kleyboeckers spent summers in Pacific, MO at Camp Saunders. Kley followed his naturalist grandfather around camp learning about the birds, trees, insects, and reptiles, sparking his education and lifelong interest in the natural world. Kley earned his BA in Biology from UNM and was well on his way to his MS when Children were born; Cody and Mollie. He began a career as a computer programmer, but never lost his love for biology and ecology. He worked on a wide variety of projects throughout his career, most recently working on a long-time contract with the NM Environment Department. Very comfortable in the great outdoors, he spent some of his happiest times in the Grand Canyon with the Strecks, in the Gila with the O'Connor clan, in Baja with Dave and Luck, in Southeastern Utah with Dusty and with anyone else he could drag along or anywhere alone with a backpack on his back. Kley is the son of William Kleyboecker (d. 1988) and lifetime New Mexico Mountain Club member Alice Kleyboecker, recently deceased. He is survived by his children; Cody and Mollie, brother; Jeff; Nephew; William, cousin; Nancy Wade of Chicago his ex-wife and forever-friend Dusty Teaf. There will be a memorial get together at a future date, where Neil Young and Quality Retreads will be certainly make an appearance. Watch for an announcement in the Albuquerque Journal.
