SCHLEISMAN -- JOSEF CARL died unexpectedly on July 19, 2012, in Des Moines, Iowa. Josef was born in Iowa City, Iowa on July 16, 1970. Joe was the son of Donald (Dutch) Schleisman, Jr, of Carroll, Iowa, and Eileen (Koren Schleisman) Waterman of Mount Carmel, Iowa. In his late teens, Joe moved to the Canary Islands with his father. He subsequently moved to Norway where he learned the language, married, and had two children. He graduated as a Chef from the Norwegian Culinary Institute. While living in Norway, Joe traveled widely in Europe. Joe moved his family to New Mexico where he was the head Chef at several prominent restaurants in Albuquerque, and was the head of Food Service for the Albuquerque Convention Center. As per his Norwegian training, he was famous for his seafood dishes. Joe is also remembered for his boundless optimism and great sense of humor. Josef was preceded in death by his father; paternal and maternal grandparents; aunt Janet Wiskus and aunt Deanna Anderson. He is survived by his children Serena, Rebecca and Michael; his mother Eileen Waterman; stepfather Randy Waterman; his brothers and sisters Heidi and Don Schleisman, Elijah, Anna and Paul Waterman; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held for Josef on September 2, 2012 at 2:00 P.M., at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Iowa, cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Mount Carmel parish hall.
