GUILLEN -- MELANIE DENISE Age 41 went to be with our Lord on "The feast of Our Lady Of Lourdes", Saturday, February 11, 2012 in Phoenix AZ. Melanie was born July 23, 1970 in Albuquerque, NM. She Attended La Cueva High (first graduating Class 1988), NMSU and graduated from UNM. As a member of Las Osita's, Sundancers and Chaparrals, she made her dance teacher Judi Nickerson proud. Melanie's was a personality that would walk in a room, light it up, captivate all and would leave us in her wake, her cousins nick-named her "The Melan-ator". Melanie, an only child, is survived by the love of her life, Steve Backofen of Phoenix AZ; her cats Batman and Peanut; parents, Pita Caratini and Vince Guillen and wife Anna; maternal grandmother Margaret Salazar; Godmother Vangie and Leo Valdez; Godfather Gary and Amy Guillen; aunts and uncles, Alex and Vina Salazar, Emily Brower, Elaine and Dave Luna, Ron and Lynn Guillen, Marcia and Len Furnas, Sharon and Sam Estrada, Eppie Guillen, John Guillen, Mike Ball; cousins, and who are also serving as Honorary pallbearers Gene Gutierrez and Annette, Adrian Gutierrez, Michelle Sotello, Marissa, Danny, Alexis and Brianna Sotello, Vicente and Charlie Guillen, Vicente Guillen III, Goddaughter Nicollette, Amanda and Isabella Estrada, Anita C De Baca, Rick, Debbie and Steven Garcia, Joel, Matt and Amanda Luna , Ivan, Jeremy, and Thomas Valdez; and long time friends, Josie, Kelly, Rachael, Sara , Gwen, Regina. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Vicente and Isabel Guillen; maternal grandfather Reymundo Salazar; cousins, Alicia Valdez and Joseph Salazar; cat Lil Moo. Specials thanks to her godmother Vangie and family, Steven Garcia, and Steve Backofen for watching over our baby all those years and being with her in the end. Thanks to all our friends and family for the tremendous outpouring of love and support. A Rosary will be recited Monday, February 27, 2012, at 6:00 pm at Daniels Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 28 2012, at 9:00 am at Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd NE, reception will follow in the St Bernadette hall.
