HARRIS -- DUDLEY E. Passed away peacefully in his sleep at The San Juan Regional Medical Center on January 30th, his 104th Birthday. He was preceded in death by Ramona, his wife of 79 years; by his son Ronnie Rex, who died at birth; and by his son Max, who died from complications from heart surgery. His daughters, Gene Littlejohns and Jacqueline Trickel; his sons, Ted and Derryl; and ten grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren, are saddened at his passing. He was a loving and gentle man and a great athlete. He was known throughout the panhandle of Texas as"Smokey Harris" because of his steaming fastball. He was instrumental in establishing baseball in the Farmington area when managing the Farmington Town team in the late 40's and 50's and helped with Farmington's first High School team in 1950 and in the early days of Connie Mac. He loved to bowl, to play pool and the game of golf, played well into his 90's and helped to get Pinon Hills Golf Course established. After serving in the US Navy in WWII he owned several businesses in the Cuba, NM area and then retired from the BIA at Shiprock, NM in 1974. He was a Master Mason for more than 50 years and a Deacon in The First Baptist Church in Farmington. He loved his family and all people and was most proud of his service in the Navy, his Masonic Lodge and being a Deacon in the Church. He will be missed. Viewing will be from 5:00-8:00pm on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington, in Farmington. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Farmington, 511 W. Arrington, with Pastor Keith Berryman officiating. The interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St., in Farmington. Pallbearers are Gary Harris, Joel Harris, Mike Evans, D.A. Evans, Brian Trickel, and Steven Bickford. Dudley is in the care of Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington, Farmington. (505) 327-5142.
