DIAZ -- ANN CONSTANCE BACHIS Passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 77 after struggling with emphysema. She is survived by three children, a daughter Taryn Bachis of Albuquerque; and two sons, Troy Bachis of Albuquerque and Lance Bachis of Palm Springs, CA; two granddaughters, Sara Bachis and Mikayla Griego of Albuquerque; a sister Kathryn Councilman, of Sand Point, Idaho; a niece and two nephews; as well as one adorable little dog, Zoe. Ann was born in Melvin, Iowa, a small town of 300 in 1934 to Fred and Helen Strubbe. During her teenage years she and her family moved to another small town of Brewster, Minnesota where she lived on a dairy farm. In 1951 at age 17 Ann moved to Albuquerque, graduating from Highland High School in 1952. She completed her nursing degree at TCU Harris Hospital in Fort Worth, TX in 1956 where she met and married Nick Bachis. In 1957 they moved to Albuquerque where Ann worked at BCI Bernalillo County Indian Hospital, now known as the UNM Medical Center. She worked for the UNM Medical Center over an 11 year span, primarily in the ER. In 1969 she transferred to the County Mental Health Center. In 1974 she began work at the VA Medical Center where she worked as a triage nurse in psychiatry for 13 years. During this period she was awarded the NM Mental Health Nurse of the Year, presented by loving colleagues. Ann divorced in 1984 and married Humberto Diaz in 1986. They lived in Harlingen, TX for 5 years, moving to San Angelo, TX in 1994, where she still had some of her closest friends. She moved back to Albuquerque in 2006 to be near her family. Ann thanks her wonderful friends throughout the years and the hospice staff of Vista Care and Heritage. She especially thanks her children for all of their loving support. She always said packing for this last trip is quite difficult; clearing out all of Life's possessions is quite time consuming and extremely emotional, however, there also comes a sense of freedom during this process. She asks forgiveness from all she has offended or harmed. She always said that "Passing on" was going to be a challenge because she had no sense of direction. Hopefully, it is Heaven. A private celebration honoring her life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Animal Humane Society.
