HOELZEL -- MATTHUS A. 35, died in his sleep at home September 22, 2011, Albuquerque, NM. Matthus loved people and was well loved in return. He grew up in New Hampshire, graduated from Albuquerque TVI, 1994, and apprenticed as a Demi-Chef/Sous Chef in Cologne, Germany, 1997-99. He became an Executive Chef, 2003. Formerly of Jenny Lake Lodge, Grand Teton National Park; the Memphis Country Club, Memphis, TN; the Ranchers Club, Albuquerque, NM; and Randy's and the Glacier Club, Durango, CO; he last served as Executive Chef at Sorrel River Ranch, Moab, UT. Survived by his mother Leslie Hoelzel; and brother Russell Kimber, Matthus was cremated at the Riverside Funeral Home and will be returned to the earth he loved. Matthus liked to fish, hunt, four-wheel and two-wheel, hike, camp, rock-hound, snow board, help others, and have a good time. A memorial service will be held at the Albuquerque Botanical Japanese Garden, 2601 Central Ave. NE, Albuquerque, on October 8, 2011, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Contributions are being accepted in lieu of flowers to support his final wishes.
