BONNEY -- MELA ULIBARRI Died on Feb. 5, 2011 in San Pedro, CA surrounded by her family. She was born on Oct. 27, 1920 to the home of Jose Federico and Maria Modesta Ulibarri. She was raised in Colonias and Santa Rosa, NM, attended and graduated from Santa Rosa High. Mela married Eduardo Bonney in the Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church and moved to San Pedro, CA, where they raised their family. She was employed at Barton Hill Elementary for 16 years as an Education Assistant, a job she loved because she enjoyed helping and teaching children. She was very patient, kind and nurturing. Mela was devoted to her Catholic faith and attended St. Peters Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society Legion of Mary. People who knew Mela can attest to her deep devotion and grounded belief of Jesus Christ by the way she lived her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eduardo; son, Eddie; daughter, Rita; two brothers, Jose Ulibarri and Ramon Ulibarri; a sister, Isabel Ulibarri. Mela is survived by her sons, Robert, Danny, Richard, Steven; daughters, Gloria Brusick and husband Richard, Debra Teran and husband Chato, Elizabeth Lenkeit and husband John, Evelyn Arsenault and husband David. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Her surviving siblings include, Eloy Ulibarri and wife Viola, sister Stella Martinez and husband Joe A., Magdelena Romero; sisters-in-law, Patsy Ulibarri and Pat Ulibarri; many nieces and nephews. Mela was buried in San Pedro, CA on February 10, 2011. A Memorial Service is planned for Mela Ulibarri-Bonney and will be held in Santa Rosa, NM on August 6, 2011. Services will be at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church.
