TORRES -- LUCY (ROMO) Age 81, was taken into the waiting arms of Our Lord on May 28, 2011. She was born on February 24, 1930 in Mora, NM, in a covered wagon chased by Indians. (That's her story and she is sticking to it). Our mother passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She joined her parents Ricardo and Mauricia Romo, sister Kate Trujillo, brother Ricardo Romo Jr., daughter Maria Dominguez, and beloved pet Snowflake. Lucy is survived by her loving husband Anastacio B. "Tacho" Torres. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on May 26, 2011. She is also survived by her children Orlando L. Torres, Margie Torres-Nunez and fiance Joseph Tenorio, and Louise "Lisa" Atencio and husband Charlie Atencio; grandchildren Jennifer Ynostroza, Jolene Padilla, Margaret Dominguez, Valerie Torres, Charlie "CJ" Atencio, Bobby Nunez, Catherine "Cat" Atencio, Michael Torres, Olivia Jastrzemski, Ricardo Torres-Tenorio and Faith Jastrzmski-Torres; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jazmin, Matthew, Joseph, Danny Joe, Danielle, Tiffany, Jameson, Richelle, Azalea, Ezekiel, and Emma; brother Albert Romo and sisters Luella Romero, Nicanora Fullbright, and Gloria Ortiz; special cousins Cleo Garcia and Emenencia Romo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucy retired in 1989 after 35 years of being a school teacher and librarian. She began her teaching career in Albuquerque at San Ignacio Catholic School and later taught for the Bernalillo Public Schools in Santo Domingo and Bernalillo. She was very proud to have served as president of the NEA for Bernalillo Public Schools. Lucy was a devout catholic and enjoyed leading her family in reciting the rosary. She loved camping, fishing, going to the casino and spending summers in Mora. A rosary was held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, burial followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are Charlie "CJ" Atencio, Bobby Nunez, Catherine Atencio, Michael Torres, Andrew Chavez and Albert Torres. Honorary pallbearers are Ricardo Torres-Tenorio and Jameson Torres. The family wishes to thank Presbyterian Hospice for their wonderful care during our mother's illness. Special thanks to Tami Krebbs, Helena Harrington, Regina Dickens and Chaplain Howard Hinman.
