VELARDE -- Genero (Gene) Velarde, 82, a long time Albuquerque resident, died Friday, April 22, 2011. He is survived by his wife Helen Velarde of Albuquerque; sons Ron Velarde and wife Connie of Longmont, CO, Bob Velarde and wife Debbie, Mike Velarde and wife Kim all of Albuquerque; grandchildren Erin Velarde of Westminster, CO, Blake Velarde of Longmont, CO, Lauren Velarde of Oxnard, CA, Chase Velarde of San Marcos, CA, Brandon, Brett, Brooke and Brittany Velarde all of Albuquerque, Aaron Vinchattle and wife Amber, Grant Vinchattle all of Longmont, CO; great-granddaughters Amaya, Betsy and Lucy; brother Ray Velarde and wife Carmen of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Fred and Viola, Mable and Pete, Mary, Greg, Richard, Robert and Rita, Mel and Kathy. Gene was retired from American Furniture and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lamy Council. He was an avid golfer and a member of La Perada and a real sports enthusiast. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at French-University Location, 1111 University Blvd NE. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
