PHILLIPS -- Rodney V. Phillips, 98, died at home on March 14, 2011. He was born Sept. 24, 1912 in Woodsboro, Refugio County, TX to John & Mattie (Barker) Phillips. Rodney was a graduate of NM Normal University (now NM Highlands). He owned a business college in Clovis and moved to ABQ in 1952 to work for Sandia Labs as a disbursement auditor. He taught typing & bookkeeping in the evenings at TVI (now CNM) for over 30 years. He also was employed by Gibson Discount. He faithfully served as a member of the Montgomery & then Netherwood Church of Christ for 59 years. Always a kind, generous & thoughtful man, Rodney will long be remembered for his poetry, puns & sense of humor. When greeted by a neighbor, he was asked how he was feeling. He replied that his left leg had been bothering him. The neighbor said it must be just part of getting old. His response was, "I don't think so - the other leg is just as old." Rodney was pre-deceased by his wife Ethel Edna (Huff) Phillips in 1988. He is survived by son, Ronald E. Phillips, daughter, Alverne (Rusti) Grimaldi & husband, Marino; brother, Ross Phillips & wife, Gloria (Santa Fe). He is survived by six grandchildren: Rhonda (Phillips) Garland & husband, John (PA); Russell Phillips & wife, Linda; Teresa (Phillips) Curl & husband, Marvin (Rio Rancho), Robert L. Stultz; Eeron L. Stultz (IL); & Michael L. Stultz (IL). Rodney had nine great-grandchildren: Sheila (Stultz) Machett (FL); April Rose & Sean Stultz (ME); Cheyenne & Sierra Stultz (IL); John Austin & Abbie Lee Garland (PA); Elijah & Isaac Curl (Rio Rancho). He was also proud of two great-great-grandchildren, Dominic & Maura Rose Machett (FL). Rodney's family would like to thank the excellent people of Hospice of NM & members of the Netherwood Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The ABQ Christian Children's Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd. NW, ABQ, NM 87120. Memorial services to be held at the Netherwood Church of Christ at 10am on Sat., April 30, 2011, reception immediately following.
