MONTOYA -- George D, Montoya, age 53, passed away Saturday April 16th , 2011 from a sudden heart attack. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to his large family from Albuquerque and Northern New Mexico. He is survived by the love of his life, Eileen Montoya wife of 33 years; four children; son, David Montoya and girlfriend Nicole Black from California; son, Danny Montoya and girlfriend Kera Hillstead from California; son, Donnie Montoya and girlfriend Danielle Grazda of Albuquerque, and daughter, Rachel Montoya. He is also survived by his parents, George and Clara Montoya of Velarde; brother, Manny Montoya and wife Maxine of Santa Fe, brother, Michael Montoya and wife Connie of Velarde, brother, Eli Montoya and wife Debbie of Albuquerque; sister, Sadie Martinez of Espanola; sister, Cathy Mares and husband Sam of Las Cruces, and father in law, Elmer Garcia of Albuquerque. He also is survived by his 11 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews that he loved dearly; as well as numerous other family members and dear friends who loved and will miss him greatly. George worked at the University of New Mexico for the past 31 years in the health science research department. He was very active in his community as a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree Knight, and involved with the many soccer games his 4 kids participated in, over the years. Over the past 25 years George was very involved and dedicated to the many ministries with his parish of Queen of Heaven, and most recently his preparation and study of the deaconate program with The Archdiocese of Santa Fe. George touched so many lives with every activity or program he was involved in. His love, laughter and smiles will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Services will be held at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5310 Claremont Ave NE., near Menaul and San Mateo. A rosary will be recited at on Tuesday, April 19th , 2011 at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 20th , 2011 at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Budagher, Salvador Mercado, Levi Maes, Arthur DeVargas, Dr. Bob Wilson and Steve Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers will be Pablo Espinosa, Honorable Ed Chavez, Kevin Barton and Gary Nez. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW. ABQ. 505-343-8008
