DIKE -- Margaret Hopcraft Dike, 89, a long time Albuquerque resident, died quietly at home on Thursday, March 31, 2011. She is survived by four sons and a daughter: Lawrence S. Dike (Beth) of Tijeras, Walter H. Dike (Angela) of Los Lunas, Robert L. Dike (Elizabeth), Martin S. Dike, and Martha D. Bedeaux (Roy) all of Albuquerque; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents and by one granddaughter, Lysah D. Stivers. Gracious and unflappable to the end, Margaret was a lifetime advocate for community causes both local and international, especially those related to history, education, environment, and the betterment of women and children. Margaret was born in Prescott, AZ, July 15, 1921, and grew up in Cimarron, NM, before moving to Albuquerque to attend UNM (BA '41, MA '75). After graduation she married, worked on the Manhattan Project, and raised a family while being active in many organizations. She retired after serving as School-Community Affairs specialist for the Albuquerque Public Schools. Margaret traveled extensively and was always ready for another trip. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to their local PTA, the UNM Mortar Board Scholarship fund, or another cause that promotes growth in our community.
