DEMICK -- James A, age 80, of Albuquerque, New Mexico went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 24, 2011. He had numerous health issues the past few years that contributed to his passing but he left this earth calmly and peacefully. Jim, as most knew him by, was born in 1930 in Derby, Vermont to Harold and Elizabeth Demick. He joined the Air Force after graduating from Derby Academy High School. He was trained as a jet aircraft mechanic and was transferred by the Air Force to Germany where he met and married Anna Solleder in 1954. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 and relocated to Albuquerque where he became the customer service representative for Wood Brothers Homes for many years. In his later years, he also worked in maintenance for several area hotels. He always enjoyed working with his hands. Jim also enjoyed flying and built two airplanes which he flew regularly. He also enjoyed classic automobiles and restored several cars. Most of all, he enjoyed using his many talents by helping most anyone in need of his services. He loved repairing, mending or building things for his neighbors and would rarely accept payment for his services. He simply wanted to be of service. One of his greatest joys was singing in church choirs. He was a member of the "Young at Heart Choir" as well as the choir at Sandia Baptist Church. He enjoyed music from a young age and played many instruments as well. The harmonica was a favorite of his and he loved teaching others to play it as well. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Anna; daughter Annette and son-in-law Larry LeVasseur of Long Beach CA; son Jim Jr. and daughter-in-law Cynthia Demick of Peralta, NM; grandchildren Joshua and Mattea Demick. He is also survived by his brother Harold and wife Janice Demick of Potsdam, New York. He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis White in 2006. A celebration of Jim's life will take place at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 on Wednesday March 9, 2011 at 10:00am. Internment will be at the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The family wishes to thank Vista Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Jim for the last eight months of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to: The "Worship Arts Ministry" at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
