D'ANGELO -- CHARLES NICHOLAS, age 53, passed away on January 17, 2011. Nick was born March 28, 1957. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. Nick graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1975. He attended the University of New Mexico graduating Magna Cum Laude in Political Science in 1979. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University Of New Mexico School Of Law in 1983. He worked in private practice and as a public defender for several years. He then took positions as the Assistant and Deputy District Attorney in Sandoval and Cibola Counties. He began his career with the New Mexico Department of Corrections in 1988. He rose to the position of Manager of the Office of General Counsel. After nineteen years of service he retired in 2007. Nick participated in many sports but he especially enjoyed the daily lunchtime basketball games with coworkers and enjoyed playing tennis with family members. He had a competitive spirit and will be remembered for the breadth of his knowledge and experience in the field of law. Nick was preceded in death by his father Vince D'Angelo. He is survived by his children Carlo Valentin D' Angelo and Dominica Eva Marie Hernandez, his mother Anne C. Smail, his fiance Gloria Crawley, brothers Joseph D'Angelo., Mark D' Angelo and wife Patricia, Chris D'Angelo. and wife Amber Papenfuf, David Smail and wife Mary, Dominic D'Angelo. and fianc Christa Dodggette, sister Maria Trabold and husband Bill, and survived by his uncles Saverio D'Angelo and E.E.Tim Candelaria and wife Evelyn, and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday, January 23rd, 2011 with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 24th at 10:00 a.m. both services to be held at The Church of Ascension 2150 Raymac Rd SW. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park 924 Menaul Blvd NE. A reception for family and friends will be held at Ascension Church immediately following.
