CARLSON -- Richard Dale Carlson, age 72, a resident of Albuquerque for 11 years, died on January 10, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Kay Carlson; daughter Lori Dalean Rekow of Snohomish, Washington; step-daughter Julie Kay Rodriguez; step-son David Alan Fisk, Jr.; son-in-law Daniel Rodriguez of Albuquerque; and grandchildren Ryan Sweet of California, Danny, Miranda and Mireya Rodriguez and Leighton Fisk of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Patrick Sweet of California; and numerous relatives including his sister Pam Webb. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Whitmore Carlson. He served in the United States Navy and was one of the first men aboard the USS Forrestal. He was proud of his service to our Country. He was dedicated to his family and friends and loved life (was a huge Nebraska Huskers fan). He was always positive. Pastor Mark Denton notes, "His humor, his faithfulness, and his courage in his five year struggle with cancer touched us all. A friend of the family quotes, "Dick was one of those rare gems of a human being. It was like you could see God's love living in and through him and he would spread the love of the Lord to others just by being there!" He will be missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at West Mesa Christian Church, 8821 Golf Course Road, NW, 898-8226. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ambercare Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 1610, Belen, NM 87002 or the UNM Cancer Center, UNM Cancer Center Development Office, MSC07 4025, 1 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131-0001.
