BONAL -- Arthur Raymond Bonal passed away at the age of 65 in Santa Fe, NM on October 25, 2010 after a heroic battle with cancer. Art was born in Santa Fe, NM on July 20, 1945 to the late Arthur M. Bonal and Teresa G. Bonal. Art attended St. Francis Elementary School and graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1964. Art served in Vietnam as a Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Maddox before being transferred to Com Crew West Pac in San Diego. After Vietnam, Art worked for the Sangre de Cristo Water Company in Santa Fe and moved to Albuquerque to work for PNM. Art worked as a surveyor's aide for the U.S. Forest Service and was an alternate delegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention held in New York City, NY. Art served as a member of the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party for the State of New Mexico for many years and was appointed to the Housing Authority for Region III as a Board Member by Governor Bruce King. Art was a member of the Southwest Regional Council of and elected President of the Local 1353. During the last years of Art's life he worked for the State of New Mexico. Art loved life and his beautiful city of Santa Fe. He spent many hours walking around Santa Fe and spreading his love to all walks of life. Art loved to spend time with family, friends, and his dogs. Art is survived by his wife Susan; son David (Nedra); his mother Teresa; sister Teresa Fox (Richard); sister Lourdes Romero (Gerald); brother Maurice (Diana); sister Yvonne; brother Charles (Sam); brother Gerard; and nieces and nephews - Marie Fox, the late Richard Fox, Reena Rodriguez, Joey Romero, Renee Pryor, Melissa Harrison, Michael Romero, Maurice Bonal, Jr., Jason Bonal, Jean Paul Marquez, Stephen Marquez, Matthew Bonal and Ashley Bonal. A Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Cristo Rey Church, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Saint Francis Cathedral Basilica by Rev. Monsignor Jerome Martinez y Alire, followed by Burial Services at Rosario Chapel and Interment at Rosario Cemetery. Art's pallbearers will be his good friends, Michael Barragree, John Francisco, Bill Garrett, Frank Herrera, Thoade (Doc) Murrah and John Thorpe. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations to the New Mexico Cancer Care Patient Services Foundation or the American Cancer Society, be made in Arthur's name.
