LUCERO -- Bernardino S. Lucero Sr. passed away Oct 12, 2010, with his family by his side. Bernardino "Benny", 84 years old, was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Antonia; and by his sisters, Victoria Martinez and Mabel Sanchez. Benny is survived by his sister Veronica "Berna" Lucero; and children, daughter Josephine "Josie" Martinez and husband Jim; son Benny Lucero and wife Sandra; son Danny; daughter Lucille and husband Jimmy; and seven grandchildren: Evangeline, Beverly, Ben, Chris, Freddie, Tommy, Pamela; and six great - grandchildren. Benny served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Post 69, SNMdeMP Society, VFW and the DAV, giving support to active and retired US military families for many years. Benny was a dedicated husband and father. The memories of the fishing trips, the stories of his time serving overseas, and his patriotic spirit will be missed by all his family and friends. As we reminisce on those mornings, afternoons and even those midnight walks, the sound of his footsteps and the shadow of a proud husband and father linger in our memories. His family will always remember his sense of humor, his constant search for hidden treasures, and his musical talents (especially his infamous horse whistle). Services are as follows: rosary will be recited on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at 5:00 p.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary church at 9502 4th Street NW. Funeral Mass to be held the following morning, Monday, October 18, 2010, at 9:00 a.m., also at Blessed Virgin Mary church followed by reception. Interment will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:30 p.m.
