MONTOYA -- Sonja Lee Montoya (Easton), age 70 of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at University of New Mexico Hospital. She lost her battle with Congestive Heart Failure after being diagnosed in 2002. At Sonja's request, services or a funeral will not be held, but a celebration of her life will be held in the Summer of 2011 in a neighborhood Park she grew up in. Sonja was born in Toledo Illinois in 1940, son of the late Dale and Mable Easton (Sallee). She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Montoya and Lee Ann Montoya, both of Albuquerque; four sisters, Ruth Ann Dougherty and husband Wylie of ABQ, Charlotte Kersey of ABQ, Dixie Theobald and husband, Leonard of ABQ and Rusty Easton and husband Jim Paugh of Alamogordo, NM; Her adopted son, Enrique Morales and her special little friend, Duffy; 14 nieces and nephews who she loved like they were her own children as well. Sonja lived in NM for 45 years and in Kansas, IL for 25 years where she raised her daughters. Sonja changed the lives of many people with her genuine, acts of kindness and generosity. It's safe to say that her Generosity could only be matched by her sense of humor. She loved "game day", crafting with her sisters, growing tomatoes (which she worried her daughters would kill since they don't care for them), big family gatherings, and eating anything with green chili on it. Sonja was a free-spirit giver especially when it came to children. Her philosophy was every child should have a stuffed animal - no matter how old they are. In lieu of flowers, cards or gifts, the greatest gift you could send is a donation to the UNM Hospital in Sonja's name. She was well known in that community and this organization gave her eight more years with her family and took care of her as if she were made of gold and was ALWAYS treated with such respect, that she was always glad to go to any doctor's visit! Send Donations online: hospitals.unm.edu/giving/ Or mail a check to: UNM Foundation Inc. C/O UNM Foundation, Two Woodward Center, 700 Lomas NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87102 Please Put "Sonja Montoya" in the memo line.
