JOHNSTON -- Charles Samuel (John) Johnston, born April 14, 1922, in the city of Corsicana, TX to George Worth Johnston and Virginia Piesek Johnston, age 88, a resident of Bosque Farms, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. John as he was called, grew up during the great depression. He saw civilization go from horse and wagon to space flight inside his lifetime. John was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. His highest decoration was the Navy Cross. One of his greatest loves was sports, where he distinguished himself by playing for Southern Methodist University, Pittsburg Steelers and the U.S. Navy team. John was proud of his 30 plus years of social work as a professional fundraiser for Cerebral Palsy, March of Dimes and other social service organizations. John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl Christina Johnston; his five children; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
