LERNER -- Julianna Kitty Glass Lerner (Ph.D.), born July 22, 1927, lived enthusiastically until August 29, 2010. Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1994 Julianna accomplished a dream when she moved to Albuquerque. A scholar, educator, public servant and philosopher, in retirement Julianna was instrumental in the founding of the New Mexico Holocaust and Intolerance Museum and Study Center, and a co-founder of the Sonja's Legacy Foundation, an exhibit highlighting the life and death of her cousins during the Holocaust. She traveled to schools around the state of New Mexico to teach about the Holocaust and broaden understanding and acceptance among people of different backgrounds. Julianna married Maximilian Lerner, and together they raised three children. She deeply loved her children and children-in-laws, David and Laurie, Shereen and Rob, and Tom and Kirsten. To truly know her was to bask in her unmitigated joy and delight in her relationships with each of her seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Ben, Steve, Katie, Noah, Lukas, and Willa. Her voice would change when she talked about them; more buoyant, proud, and unquestionably happy with their exploits and adventures. Join us to celebrate this remarkable woman at a memorial service at the Jewish Community Center at 5520 Wyoming Avenue, Albuquerque, on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Contributions in her honor to Sonja's Legacy Foundation, P.O. Box 13, Mount Laurel, New Jersey 08054 or the Holocaust and Intolerance Museum of New Mexico, 616 Central Avenue SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102 would make her smile.
