COLEMAN -- David R. Coleman born December 16, 1937, formerly of Lansing, Michigan, died peacefully on August 20, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. David enjoyed a decade-long retirement in his home at the foot of the Sandia Mountains with his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cabot. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army and completing his education at Wayne State University in the 1960s, he taught briefly in the Detroit Public School System. He relocated to Lansing and pursued a career lasting more than three decades in state government with the Department of Management & Budget and the State Insurance Bureau. He is survived by his daughter Renee Coleman Bryer, and her husband Giles; grandchildren Vanessa and Rowan, of Plymouth, Michigan; sister Nancy Barnes of Midlothian, Virginia; nephew Richard Barnes and wife Charlotte of Midlothian, Virginia; nieces Lauren Barnes of New York City and Beth Barnes and husband Steven Sykes of Waltham, Massachusetts; nephew Robert Barnes of Richmond, Virginia; ex-wife Nancy Coleman of Haslett, Michigan; special friend Dorothy Otto of Albuquerque; and other friends in both Albuquerque and Lansing. He was a loyal, dedicated friend and father whose humor, candor, and affection will be greatly missed.
