APODACA -- MARGARITA V. APODACA, 91, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at her son's home who was her caring provider for 3 months in Albuquerque. She was born July 30, 1919 in La Union, New Mexico to Felix and Josephina Vargas. Margarita was a homemaker, as well as a loving and caring mother of five. Survivors include her devoted son, Avelino C. (Chino) Apodaca and wife, Mary of Albuquerque; her dedicated daughters, Dora Apodaca , Dolores Herrera and husband, George, Lucy Dunn and husband, James all of Las Cruces, Cathy Romero and husband, Michael of Rio Rancho; her grandchildren, Lea, Valentine and wife, Angie, Mario and Elsa Gomez, Fernando and Michelle Herrera also of Las Cruces, Chasity and husband Dustin Dally and Angelica Romero of Rio Rancho; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Other survivors include her dearly beloved sister, Nena Ontiveros of Las Cruces. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Avelino Apodaca, Sr.; and son, Sammy Apodaca; brother Pepe Vargas; sister, Lupe Evaro; brother, Ralph Validez; and brother-in-law, Guadalupe Ontiveros. Visitation for Margarita will begin at 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2010 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, 1178 N. Mesquite Street. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Serving as casket bearers will be Jamie Evaro, Val Gomez, Jr., Mario Gomez, Fernando Herrera, Justin Gomez, and David Ramos. Honorary bearers will be Danny Ontiveros, EJ Garcia, George Herrera, James Dunn and Michael Romero. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Louis Benevento, Dr. Bishnu Rauth, Amber Care Hospice Staff, (Albuquerque and Las Cruces), and sincere gratitude to Gracie Olivas for her devotion and care for Margarita.
