TINNIN -- Bertha Ophelia Tinnin, 83, long time resident of New Mexico, born on March 22, 1927 to Carl and Lona Whinery, passed away on August 21, 2010. She is survived by her children, Johneda Lee, Walter Tinnin, Ophelia Gordon and husband Rick, Sidney Tinnin and wife Cora, and David Tinnin; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sherman Whinery and wife Elfrieda, Herman Whinery and wife Elsie, Carl Whinery, and Frank Whinery and wife Laura. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Aubrey Tinnin; and two sisters, Delores Scott and Cleita Whinery. Her family owes her strength in life to her pioneer ancestors, who helped settle the United States. She depended on her inner strength when her husband died and she had to raise five children as a single parent. She had many occupations through her life including running a service station and accounting. Bertha took great pride in her work as a home healthcare nurse. She had a passion for helping others in need, but placed her family first. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at French ~ Lomas location.
