HESS -- Grant F. Hess passed away on August 6, 2010 at the age of 87. He was born in Buffalo, New York on September 21, 1922. Married 61 years, he is survived by his wife, Shirley T. Hess; his two sons, Grant F. Hess, Jr. and Scott F. Hess; and four grandchildren Stephanie Hess, Michael Hess, Jack Hess, and Rachel Hess. He was an alumnus of Syracuse University and a veteran of World War II. He was proud of his service in the Army's classified "Secret" Special Troops which employed sonic deception seventeen times throughout the European Theater of Operations. His unit's employment successfully deceived enemy commanders into thinking they were facing a strong armored force where none actually existed. After relocating to Fountain Hills, Arizona, using the experience and graphic design ability he acquired in his career in the advertising agency business, he also took pride in being the designer of today's Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona logotype and creator of the town's slogan "All that is Arizona".
