HENDERSON -- Jerry W. Henderson, 70, passed away July 7, 2010 in Albuquerque, N.M., after a long illness. A private memorial will be held at a later date in Albuquerque. Mr. Henderson was born in Dalton, Georgia to the late Herman H. and Mattie (Kirk) Henderson. He is survived by one brother, Thomas Troy Henderson of Sarasota, Florida. A graduate of Dalton High School, he earned a bachelor of arts from the University of Denver. A Vietnam War Veteran, he attained the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military discharge he moved to Florida and taught in the Dade County School system while completing his master's degree studies at the University of Miami. He taught briefly at Louisiana State University before pursuing advanced studies and a law degree from the University of New Mexico. He served in several positions as an assistant public defender in Florida and New Mexico and most recently as assistant district attorney in Grants, N.M. Although his accomplishments in later life were admirable, one of his proudest moments came at an early age when, although suffering from crippling asthma, he achieved the status of Eagle and Life Scout while a member of Troop 111 in Dalton. Please send remembrance to Boy Scouts of America, Northwest Georgia Council, P.O. Box 1422, Rome, GA 30162
