KELLY -- Anne J. Kelly died peacefully at her home Monday, July 5, after a short illness. She was born June 8, 1922 in Allentown, PA. She first came to Albuquerque in 1942 when her husband was stationed at the Army Air Corp base that later became Kirtland AFB. They returned in 1949 and she lived here the rest of her life. In the 60s, she graduated from UNM with honors, then taught English, French and the Bible as Literature at Highland High School until she retired in the mid eighties. Never one to be idle, she volunteered to teach French at a Catholic preschool, began taking painting lessons and spent even more time in her garden. Anne loved flowers, especially roses and once grew the roses she painted. Later she took communion to the sick and housebound when she wasn't traveling in foreign countries with her husband, Christopher T. Kelly. She was an active and beloved member of the Newman Center at UNM, involved in marriage enrichment and Catholic faith sharing groups and on August 27, 2000 she took her vows as a Lay Dominican. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher T. Kelly; and her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Barbara Johnston. She is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Cooper of Alcalde, NM and Michele Connelly of Gila Hot Springs, NM; and her nieces and nephew. Many, many people will miss her warm loving smile. A memorial rosary will be recited Friday, July 30 at 9:30 a.m., at Aquinas Newman Center followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. also at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas NE. A reception will follow at the Parish Hall. Anne will be interred with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Catholic Charities will accept donations in her name.
