YUSKA -- Sylvia Yuska, beloved mother, and grandmother passed away Monday, May 24, 2010. She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Janelle, her granddaughters Allison and Lauren, her daughter Julie Buckalew and her husband Hardy. She is also survived by two beloved "grand puppies" Billy and Bailey. She was born January 26, 1935 to Jack and Ethel Cohen in Finsbury Park, London, England. As a child she lived through WWII in Finsbury Park, London, England, moving to Dunstable, Bedfordshire for safety. Sylvia met Julius (Jules) Yuska who was there with the U.S. Air Force, and they got married in 1955. They moved to the U.S. and Sylvia became a citizen. As Jules' career took him around the world, Sylvia, a devoted wife and wonderful mother sacrificed proximity to parents and extended family for her husband and children. In 1972 Jules retired and the family moved to Albuquerque. Sylvia was a beautiful, loving, and giving woman who took great joy in her family, work, friends, and pets. She had strong faith in God and had amazing gifts as an artist and seamstress. Sylvia's positive outlook was as British as her accent we all loved. She was gracious and polite and had a clever sense of humor. We love and miss her immeasurably. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., June 5, 2010 at Sylvia's church; St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd NE. Services will be lead by Fr. James Hunter and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Sylvia's name to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
