BENNER -- Mary Esther Benner, 84, resident of ABQ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 31st with her family at her side after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 25, 1925 to Adela Castillo-Montano and Eduardo Montano in San Mateo, NM. After leaving San Mateo, NM she began her life as a wife, mother, and friend to many. She attended Everlasting Light Baptist Church where her love for God and faith carried her through her illness. She always smiled no matter how much pain she was in. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and two daughters, Liebe C. Martinez and Brenda J. Montoya. She leaves behind her husband, Lester Benner; daughters, Gloria McAfee, Jeanette Melendrez and husband Frankie; a son Paul (Sonny) Montoya Jr.; grandchildren whom she raised, Marlo Daily and husband Jeff, and Brandon Montoya; other grandchildren include Tammy Otero and husband Mario, Hope Simmons and husband Brad, Paul Jon Montoya, Patrick Montoya, Xavier McAfee, and Xaviera McAfee, and 12 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Everlasting Light Baptist Church, 475 Coors Blvd. NW, ste. L, Albuq., NM 87121.
