DAWSON -- Harry Thomas Dawson passed away at the home of his son James, in Alamosa, Colorado, March 19, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Harry Thomas Dawson was born December 30, 1917 to James and Emma Box Dawson in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was the third of four children and the last survivor of his siblings. Harry's father came to the United States from England. Harry was a first generation American. Harry is survived by his son, James Price and daughter-in-law Rebecca; grandchildren, Kathrin (Spencer) Folau, Amy (Corey) Crowther, James Brooks, and Shana (Stephen) Malouff; and nine great-grandchildren. Harry's beloved wife of 58 years Lora Frances preceded him in death in 2005. Harry was the epitome of what is known today as "The Greatest Generation". He survived the Great Depression, served in the United States Navy during World War II on board the USS Barnet. The Barnet was awarded seven battle stars. Harry served in Africa, Europe and the Pacific; he was a combatant in the battle of Guadalcanal. After the war Harry was Master of the boat that plied San Francisco Bay transporting prisoners and prison employees and their families between Alcatraz Prison and San Francisco. In 1950 the Dawson family moved to Los Alamos, NM where he was on the Protective force of the then secret city. In 1955, the family moved to Albuquerque where Harry was a Convoy Commander of the Atomic Energy Commission, he delivered weapons and documents all over the globe. Harry retired in 1964 with over 25 years of service. After his retirement from the Federal Government he became a well known and respected realtor in Albuquerque. Harry had many friends, neighbors and family members who will miss him greatly. Friends may visit Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at French~Wyoming Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at French~ Wyoming Chapel with burial following at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
