HEMPERLEY -- Judson M. Hemperley, 90, went to be with the Lord on February 10, 2010. He was born in Ida, Louisiana to Luther and Syble Hemperley. Mr. Hemperley is survived by his children, Judson M Hemperley Jr. and wife Noreen, Julie Bustamante, Michael "Skip" Hemperley and wife Billie and Cheri Baisden and husband David. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. Judson was preceded in death by his sister Iris Bliss Hemperley and his wife of 63 years Helen. He served in the United States Army during WW II as a Staff Sergeant in an Army Medical Detachment. Part of his story was captured in a recent documentary of his efforts to save lives, rather than take them, during the war, and the documentary won an EMMY in the fall of 2009. Mr. Hemperley later worked in and moved from the Oil boom, in east Texas, to the Uranium boom, in Grants, NM, in 1960. He loved his family above all and enjoyed gardening, fishing and creating his culinary delights and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services will be held February 17, 2010 Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 224 Mountain Rd, Grants, NM with burial following at the Grants Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday, February 16, 2010, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Grants or Heartland Hospice of Grants in his name. The family would like to express a special thanks to Heartland Hospice for their excellent care.
