AUTIO -- N. Helen Autio, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, passed away on February 9, 2010 after a long and full life of 92 years. She will be deeply missed. Helen is survived by her son Randy and his wife Susan, and their children Jenn and Nick, all of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Marvin Autio, on March 31, 2007. Helen was also preceded in death by her brother Art, and sisters Mary and Esther. Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and active member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church since 1970. Helen was an "old fashioned kind of Christian", who pronounced her faith with her care, love, and hard work for her family, friends, and neighbors. Helen always gave her time and prayers to anyone in need. Helen was born on September 23, 1917 in Leadville, Colorado where her father Emil was a hard rock miner. Emil mined in Telluride, Leadville and finally in Lead, South Dakota where the family settled. Helen's father, Emil was killed in a mine explosion in 1923. Helen's mother Kristina raised her four children in Lead after his death. Helen graduated from Lead High School in 1935 and cared for her mother for 19 years while working in the payroll office of the Homestake Gold Mine. She married Marvin in 1955 after he returned from World War II and then completed his college education on the GI bill. They settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho where both she and he worked at the Atomic Energy Commission's Nuclear Reactor site. Helen, Marvin, and Randy moved to Albuquerque in December 1969. Memorial Services will be held at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 211 Jefferson St. N.E., on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Road Runner Food Bank, 5840 Office Blvd. N.E., Albuquerque, NM, 87109.
