ZICH -- Gordon A. Zich, born April 27, 1926 in Merrill, Wisconsin, beloved husband and father, went to Heaven on Monday, February 1, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Pat; daughter, Glory Jenson and husband, Gary, grandchildren, Charley, Patricia and Sarah Jenson; sons, Jonathan Zich and wife, Elizabeth, grandchildren, Sean, Matthew and Kenneth Zich and Jamison Zich and wife Adela and grandchildren, Daveed, Devon and Cori Zich. Gordon was a World War II veteran serving as cryptographer in the China, Burma and India Theater for two years. He married Patricia (nee Mulvihill) August 28, 1948. Gordon earned his B.A. in Education from Valparaiso in 1950 and his M.A. in Administration and Guidance and Counseling in 1959 from Wisconsin State University and his Ph.D from the University of Illinois in 1966. He taught high school English for five years in Hayward, Wisconsin and was the high school principal for two years and the Guidance and Counseling Director for another five years in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He moved his family to Albuquerque in 1966 to teach at the University of New Mexico, College of Education, Guidance and Counseling Department. Gordon retired from teaching after 22 years in 1988. During his tenure at UNM, Gordon was active as a member of the National Education Association, Phi Beta Kappa and the American Personnel Association. He and his wife were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church from 1966 to 1984 and Faith-in-Christ Lutheran Church from 1984 where Gordon was an elder for many years. Gordon enjoyed golf at UNM South, where he had a hole-in-one, and duplicate bridge at Tanoan Country Club. His favorite pastime at home was watching all types of sports and working cross word puzzles. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling the world with friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at Faith-in-Christ Lutheran Church, 1750 Faith Court. A private family interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Heart Association in Gordon's name. Gordon is with his Father in Heaven but he will be messed by his family and friends here.
