VARNER -- Kirk Lydell Varner, age 43, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, was born April 20, 1966 and passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2010. He worked at the Bernalillo Juvenile and the Metropolitan Detention Centers and was also the entertainment chairman of the Valencia Community Expo. Kirk was very family and church oriented and was mightily used by God. He touched the lives of people wherever he went. His passion was drum playing and he was known as father drums and the Thumper. Kirk you were loved and will be missed very much by all who knew and loved you. A star on earth and a star in heaven! He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Delene Varner of Hobbs; and grandmother, Elaine Massey of Satanta, KS. Kirk is survived by his wife, Debbie Varner; son, Jordan Varner both of Los Lunas, NM; his dad, Wilbert Varner of Hobbs, NM; three sisters, Debora Varner, Janet Lopez of Hobbs and Judi Varner-Ndande of Plano, TX; sister-in-law, Sheila Pigg of Hobbs; four nieces, Victoria Hernandez of Irving, TX, Ashley Pigg of Hobbs, Dakotah Varner of Hobbs and Monatanah Varner of Plano and nephew, Demetrius Lopez of Hobbs. He is also survived by two great-nieces and four great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Belen United Pentecostal Church, 12 Sherrod Road in Belen, on Friday January 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jose Lovato officiating.
