TSCHASAR -- Steve Tschasar, 70, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, lost his long and courageous battle with Leukemia on Saturday, October 3, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Antonia Tschasar. He is mourned by his beloved wife and best friend of 18 years, Cathy; as well as his two sisters twin Stephanie and husband Hans, and Hilda and husband Tom. Steve had five beautiful children that he loved more than life itself. Sons Michael and John; daughters Diane and husband John, Carol and husband Craig, Linda and husband Nick; His eight grandchildren, Amanda, Joe, Layne, Carley, Claire, Cole, Jack and Jay were always a source of joy for Grandpa Steve. His nieces and nephews, Sonja, Cyndi, Ashlee, Jessica and Austin will miss their Uncle Steve. His puppies Oreo and Spicy girl already miss the "Scrunchy Snaks" their Daddy passed out so liberally! Steve was born November 29, 1938 in Leitersdorf, Yugoslavia. Along with his parents and two sisters, Steve immigrated to the United States, and became a citizen in 1958. It was his proudest accomplishment. Steve did not speak a word of English when he arrived in America. He worked hard all his life, first in high school learning the English language and earning a diploma. He sold newspapers on street corners in Los Angeles after school to help support his family, and fondly remembered holding back a nickel from his Mother each day so he could buy ice cream. He was always thankful she never knew! As a young man he went to work for Thermador Appliances in Los Angeles. Steve began as a painter, painting machined parts and worked his way up over his 45 years with the company, retiring as the Product Manager with responsibly for over 500 employees. In 2001, Steve and Cathy retired to Albuquerque, where he found that he just couldn't stay home, so he worked for an additional six years at Lowe's selling appliances. His customers never failed to appreciate his knowledge of the products he sold, and he was proud of the fact that many customers came back and asked for him by name. Everyone Steve met he considered a friend. When he wasn't working, Steve discovered the joy of golf, and he and his golf buddies Ray and Louie spent many wonderful Friday mornings chasing that ball! Steve loved gardening, and could grow anything. His neighbors will miss his annual supply of peaches and tomatoes. Steve was a devout Roman Catholic all his life, and never failed to say prayers before going to sleep at night. Surely God has welcomed Steve home with open arms. Services are pending at this time.
