WHOLEY -- Cecilia N. Wholey passed away with her family at her bedside on September 24, 2009 after a short illness. Her strong faith in God and in the power of prayer helped her through this difficult time. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lloyd; daughter, Debra Phillips and husband, Eric, of Albuquerque; son, John, of Silver City; grandchildren, Ian and Lauren Phillips of Albuquerque; sisters, Sylvia Amaral and Nina Sparks of San Diego and Mary Jo Meyers of Kailua, HI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecilia was born in Kihei, Maui, HI, the youngest of 12 children born to a prominent Maui family. After high school she moved to Honolulu where she attended the University of Hawaii, worked for the Military Sea Transfer Service and as a fashion model. In 1949 she married a naval officer and for the next 27 years accompanied him in his tours of duty in the US and overseas. During these times she volunteered to assist the Navy Relief Society and helped at the base thrift shops. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. At her request, no memorial services will be held; she will be interred at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gopal and Dr. Agbemadzo, the staff of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the oncology staff at Presbyterian Hospital, and nurse Deborah Noble-Mares of Presbyterian Hospice.
